Bay Charlie 11 x 14 Unframed Print = $
25.00 This is a picture of the saltwater marsh only a few miles from the Gulf of Mexico in lower Terrebonne Parish. It’s a picture on a summer day of an oyster reef. Oyster boats are dredging the reef, and harvesting it’s bounty. The white markers depict the lease owner’s lease on the reef. These markers are everywhere in the saltwater marshes of South Louisiana. The birds are brown pelicans, the Louisiana state bird. I tried to capture the soaring and precision flying of these huge five to six foot wingspan birds as they glide effortlessly searching for food on their return to the rookery where they’ll rest. The picture shows the low tide when some of the oysters are visibly exposed in the shallows. It also depicts the simple rigging and equipment of the boats and the men who work from dawn to dusk to harvest Louisiana’s world-famous oysters. *Original includes mounting with triple matting under clear glass in a neutral frame. |
