High on the rim of Gate's Pass (named for the founder who reportedly cut the first modern road through the area), as the moon sets while traveling across the sky, the light of Mars and countless stars shine onto the valley below illuminating the desert and flora in a bath of light.  This picture was done in modern times but the sight has repeated itself countless times over the centuries.  It was seen and held in wonder by the miners as they traveled the trails to and from the gold fields.  Native American Indians held the sight in awe as they passed through the gate way to the valleys beyond.
